Little Rock Announces New Contract For Head Coach Chris Curry

Curry signs a new four-year deal through the 2027 season

LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock Director of Athletics George Lee has announced a new contract for Trojan head baseball coach Chris Curry. The new contract is a four-year deal, beginning in July of 2023 and keeping Curry at the helm of the Trojan baseball program through the 2027 season.

"I'm very happy to be able to offer this new contract to coach Curry and have him continue to lead our baseball program for the foreseeable future," said Lee. "Coach Curry and his staff do an excellent job recruiting and mentoring the next generation of Little Rock baseball players. But what is even more impressive is they achieve excellence in the classroom while setting up our student-athletes for successful careers after graduation."

Curry is entering his ninth season as Little Rock's head baseball coach, taking over the program on July 1, 2014. During his first eight seasons, Curry has notched 174 victories, ranking fourth all-time in program history for wins, while his .446 winning percentage is tied for third all-time. Curry also holds the program record for most conference victories (95) and conference winning percentage (.477).

During his time in Little Rock, Curry has produced 13 all-conference players, including Ryan Scott as the Sun Belt Player of the Year in 2016 and Hayden Arnold as the league's Pitcher of the Year in 2021. Curry himself picked up league accolades as well, being named the Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 2016.

Seven of Curry's former players have been taken in the MLB Draft with two others signing free agent MLB deals as nearly a dozen others have signed professional contracts. Curry has also placed an emphasis on his players' efforts in the classroom as the baseball program has consistently boasted a team GPA above 3.0 with an Academic All-America honoree in Riley Pittman in 2019.

"My family and I are grateful to George Lee, Chancellor Drale and the Little Rock baseball program for trusting me to lead into the next chapter of Trojan baseball as we begin competing in the Ohio Valley Conference," said Curry. "Little Rock is our home, and we have so many relationships and friendships with the central Arkansas community. We are proud to be a part of this program for a long time in the future."

Curry begins his ninth season this Friday as Little Rock opens the 2023 season at Gary Hogan Field, welcoming South Dakota State for a three-game series, beginning Friday. The 2023 season marks the beginning of a new chapter as the Trojans will begin competing in the Ohio Valley Conference.
