Lewis to Transition to UNC Asheville

ELIZABETH CITY, NC– Coach Tynesha Lewis is transitioning to become the next head women's basketball coach at UNC Asheville announced on Friday morning (April 12).

"We want to thank Tynesha Lewis for her outstanding contributions to Elizabeth City State University and the women's basketball program," said Director of Athletics, James DuBose.

"She will always be a part of ECSU history as she led her team to the first CIAA women's basketball championship in school history."

Lewis, who will become the 12th coach in program history, and the eighth since the Bulldogs have transitioned to Division 1. Lewis will be tasked with taking the Bulldogs back to the NCAA Tournament. 

"To my players, you're my family forever.  Thank you for the grace you extended towards me as I grew as a coach, person, and woman.  I pray I've done the same towards you." Lewis said.

Lewis, led the Lady Vikings to three conference championship appearances capturing the program's first Conference Championship in 2023 and the program's first NCAA regional berth. Lewis was named the 2022-23 D2 NSMA Coach of the Year, as well as the CIAA Coach of the Year in 2021-22.
