PHILADELPHIA  – Drexel Athletics will add a new turf field which features an air-supported structure, commonly referred to as a bubble, to the Vidas Athletics Complex during the 2024-25 academic year. This addition to Vidas will provide varsity athletics, club sports, and intramurals an indoor space during the winter months as well as an additional artificial field for year-round use.

The synthetic turf field will be constructed in what is now a grassy area between Vidas and Buckley Fields.

Construction on the project will begin this upcoming July with a targeted completion date of late 2024. There will be outdoor lighting for the field during the spring and summer months to allow for maximum utilization. The field will be similar in size to Buckley Recreational field, which was 72 yards by 35 yards.

"We appreciate the Board of Trustees supporting this project and elevation of our footprint for field sports. The inclusion of an additional turf field and bubble to the Vidas Athletic Complex will improve the Drexel experience of our student-athletes and our general student body," said Director of Athletics Maisha Kelly. "Having this facility will allow our teams the flexibility to have year-round training, particularly in the winter months. It will allow for more individualized workouts, team conditioning and overall skill development."
