Job Title Athletic Director
Nature of Work
The Director of Athletics is the chief athletics officer representing the athletics department and reports directly to the President. This position provides oversight, guidance, and supervision for all aspects of the men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletic sports programs and facilities. The position develops a collaborative productive partnership between the Athletics Department and academic enterprise, student affairs, enrollment management, college relations, CSC Foundation, and enhance the public perception of the College and Eagle Athletics. Responsible for administering all aspects of the athletic program in accordance with the college’s mission and vision, and policies along with those of the NCAA, RMAC, and other regulatory bodies.
Examples of Work Performed
Essential Duties:
1. Develop plans, policies, procedures, and programs which are in compliance with College, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, NCAA rules and regulations along with applicable state and federal laws.
2. Develops budget guidelines, approves budget appropriations, and monitors conformance to budget.
3. Develops and implements short term and long-term strategic plans regarding fiscal needs for operations and capital improvement and vision for the Athletics Department.
4. Develops and implements programs to increase revenue sources to include effective plans for marketing and promotions as well as fundraising and alumni relations engagement.
5. Ensures that coaches and administrative staff actively support the Department and College’s joint commitment to academic achievement, student success, and student recruitment.
6. Provide guidance and approval for contract produced by coaches, trainers, staff, and all personnel who work for the department.
7. Promotes an environment that provides an outstanding student-athlete experience.
8. Promotes efforts to engage the community in support of the athletic program and College mission and vision.
9. Provide leadership for fundraising associated with the athletic department. Coordinate fundraising goals and initiatives and corporate sponsorships with the Executive Director of the Chadron State Foundation.
10. Supervise the coaches and other staff and professional growth opportunities for them.
11. Serves a primary spokesperson for the Department promoting the NCAA II philosophy and mission of the athletic department.
12. Performs other duties as assigned by the President.

Secondary Duties:
1. Develop working relationships with area colleges, RMAC colleges and area high schools. Act as liaison between athletics and the community.
2. Prepare annual athletic reports and recommendations for the President of Chadron State College.
3. Work in conjunction with the coaching staff in the coordinating and scheduling of athletic contests and the facilities required.
4. Supervise all funds spent or collected in athletic program and arrange for payment of officials.
5. Work in conjunction with the coaching staff, Student Affairs, and Human Resources to coordinate disciplinary procedures for student athletes and employees.
6. Mediate any grievances between sports, coaches or coaches and athletes.
7. Make recommendations for employment of coaches.
8. Approve the purchase, inventories, care, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment.
9. Supervise the maintenance of the athletic facilities.
10. Work in conjunction with Athletic Trainer in arranging and organizing all medical aspects of athletics.

Required Qualifications
  • At least ten years of directly related professional experience at the college level with five or more years of experience in an athletic administrative position (e.g., Director, Deputy Director, Associate, or Assistant Director)
  • Experience managing substantial budgets, success in fundraising and/or revenue generation
  • Record of developing strong partnerships within the college community and/or the community at-large
  • Proven record of collaborating effectively with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external constituents to create a collegial work environment
  • Experience and commitment to providing leadership to a student-centered comprehensive College and enhancing the development of students
  • Ability to plan, develop, and implement significant strategic initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
Earned Master’s degree from an accredited institution strongly preferred

Must be able to effectively communicate in verbal and written formats and satisfactorily perform the functions of this position.
