Job Description
Missouri Western State University located in St. Joseph, Missouri, just 45 minutes north of Kansas City, invites qualified applicants to apply for our Assistant Track and Field Coach (Distance) opening.

The Assistant Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Coach (Distance) is responsible for assisting the Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Coach with all facets of conducting successful men’s and women’s track & field programs.

Missouri Western is an NCAA Division II institution, which successfully competes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) in 16 sports and Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) in 1 sport.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Responsible for assisting the Head Coach with training plan development, execution.
  • Develop student-athlete skills and provide coaching.
  • Plan and manage practice sessions.
  • Recruit potential student-athletes, coordinating campus visits and the signing of student-athletes.
  • Assist in monitoring the academic performance of student-athletes.
  • Monitor the mental and physical health of student-athletes.
  • Participate in fundraising and community engagement activities.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of the sport.
  • Ability to coach student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and other general office equipment.
  • Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Candidate should have coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level and proven experience as a recruiter.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certified
  • A valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters Degree

Physical Demands
  • Generally works in an office or an indoor or outdoor sports environment.
  • May be exposed to the loud noise of an audience at meets/competitions.
  • May be exposed to inclement weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
  • Required to use close vision and be able to focus.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, and bend at the knee and waist, and walk.
  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement to type and work on computer.
  • Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computer, telephone, and related office equipment.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
