Postma named DSU’s interim Athletics Director

Former Madison High School Athletics Director to start at DSU immediately

April 11, 2024

MADISON, S.D. – Bud Postma has been named the interim athletics director (AD) at Dakota State University, beginning immediately.  DSU's previous athletics director, Jeff Dittman, retired earlier this month.

Postma is a name well-known in athletics circles in South Dakota, having been AD at Madison High School for many years.  He also has decades of coaching experience in Madison, with girls and boys golf, wrestling and football, as well as leadership and administrative experience.

"We are fortunate that Bud is able to join our Trojan Family," said José-Marie Griffiths, President of Dakota State.  "This is a pivotal time for DSU Athletics, and his experience with teaching, coaching, and in leadership roles will provide invaluable to maintain the momentum we have with our programs and facilities.

"I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to lead DSU Athletics," Postma said.  "During my 38 years of living in Madison, I have cultivated numerous tremendous relationships which will continue as I join the DSU community."

Postma has been a member of the South Dakota High School Activities Association and has served on its board of directors and golf and wrestling advisory boards.  He is an NCAA certified wrestling office and has been tournament director for NCAA Division II National Wrestling tournaments as well as state golf and track & field meets.

He credits his experience as the AD at Madison High School as very beneficial, noting Madison's program successes, and his efforts with a large gymnasium construction project about 10 years ago.

"During that period, I was actively involved in all the facets of planning, designing, and building," he said.  "At the same time, I was responsible for all sponsorships and donations."  DSU is currently in the process of a construction project for an athletics events center, set to open in August 2024.

"I am incredibly excited for this position and eager to work on the many challenges that lie ahead of us.  I want to thank President Griffiths for the trust she has in me and giving me this opportunity to lead the Trojans," Postma said.
