Bins Steps Down as Head Cross Country Coach

RIPON, Wisconsin – After the most successful seven-year stretch in Ripon cross country history, head coach Corey Bins has resigned from his position and has accepted a new career opportunity, effective after the completion of the 2024 outdoor track and field season.

Bins' tenure in Ripon is highlighted by bringing home the school's first-ever Midwest Conference championship in cross country, accomplishing the feat with women's cross country in 2022. He has coached 34 All-Midwest Conference performers for Ripon, including 2019 MWC women's champion Madie King, 2022 MWC women's runner-up Mikayla Flyte, 2023 MWC women's runner-up Ali Denamur, 2022 and 2023 MWC men's runner-up Sam Forstner and 2019 MWC men's third-place finisher David Potter. Under Bins' direction, Ripon's men's cross country team has improved from ninth to third at the MWC Championships, while the women's team has improved from 10th to first.

In 2023, Bins mentored Flyte to Ripon's fourth-ever appearance at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships and first appearance in over a decade. He also was instrumental in Jenny Cortes competing at the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, doing so in the 800-meter run. The sophomore also became Ripon's first-ever female to participate in the indoor championships solely for a running event.

As the associate head track and field coach, Bins has coached King to an MWC Championship in the 10K, while also helping Potter win the 5K and 10K during the 2021 season. Bins has coached 46 individual All-Midwest Conference performances in track & field, including 16 individual champions, while overseeing 82 individual top 10 all-time marks in Ripon history between men and women, both indoors and outdoors. In addition, he has helped coach 21 All-MWC relays and 10 relay MWC championships.

"Corey Bins has been a tremendous coach during his time at Ripon and he leaves the program in a place where we will attract outstanding candidates as we begin a national search for his replacement," Director of Athletics Chris Schumacher said.

A national search has begun for the next head cross country coach at Ripon College.
