Bowers Steps Down from Men’s Soccer Program for Deeper Focus on Family Developments

SALEM, Ore. – Earlier this morning, Corban University Director of Athletics Bill Pilgeram accepted the resignation of men's soccer head coach Corbin Bowers. This decision allows Bowers and his newly formed family to move closer to their immediate families among both important and challenging moments in their lives, while still enabling him to remain in higher education coaching on the east coast of the United States.

"Corbin was a great fit for Corban University, and we thank him for his commitment and the work he was able to accomplish with the men's soccer team over this past year," Pilgeram stated. "While we are disappointed in losing a great coach like Corbin, we wish him and his young family the best as they move closer to home and take on the new coaching opportunities ahead of him."

Bowers departs after a 2023 season that saw the program reach the postseason for the tenth-consecutive year despite the recent head coaching change, where the Warriors finished with a 4-7-7 overall record to conclude with an even .500 winning percentage. Redshirt sophomore forward Irwin Leon was a Second Team All-Conference selection under Bowers' leadership, while the team saw eight Academic All-Conference, four Academic All-District, and six Scholar-Athletes named to the various academic teams.

Seven ties represent the highest single season mark by a Navy and Gold men's soccer program since the inaugural season in 1977, mostly due in part to the NAIA's decision to drop the overtime period from regular season contests. The team's 4-4-5 finish in CCC contests this year marks the thirteenth-consecutive season where the program has finished at least .500 in conference matchups, with the streak stretching back to the 2011 season and allowing Bowers to pick up right where every other head coach left off in the perennial success of the men's soccer teams to previously perform at Corban.

A national search by the Corban Athletics Search Committee has already begun as the Warriors look to replace Bowers' guidance at the helm of the men's soccer program. Warrior women's soccer head coach Travez Whyte will be stepping in to assume interim administrative duties over the men's program until a new full-time head coach is hired in the coming weeks.
