Steve Mohn to serve as Head Men's Soccer Coach this Fall

TACOMA, Wash. — University of Puget Sound Athletic Director Amy Hackett announced Friday the hiring of Steve Mohn to serve as the next head men's soccer coach for the Loggers. An established fixture within the Puget Sound region, Mohn has spent the last 10 years as the head coach for Highline College, located in Des Moines, Wash.

"I'm truly honored to take over the University of Puget Sound men's soccer program. It's a storied program which provides student-athletes with a top level education and athletic experience. I would like to thank Athletic Director Amy Hackett and the athletic department for this opportunity," said Mohn. "I've been a member of the Tacoma community for over 10 years and I'm excited to be a part of this University. I have high expectations and look forward to continued program growth and challenges ahead!"

While at the helm for the Thunderbirds, Mohn's remarkable record of 118-28-18 has earned him three NWAC Coach of the Year awards, along with seven West Region Coach of the Year honors. Highline captured three NWAC championships in 2014, 2017, and 2021. Mohn served as the assistant coach of the Thunderbirds for six years before being elevated to the head coaching position.

Mohn has a strong presence in the local soccer community having served as the Tacoma Stars head coach since 2019. The Stars are three-time WISL champions under his leadership. Mohn also has been involved in area club programs for the past 14 years including Washington Premier, and the Elite Player Development/Olympic Develop Program.

"We are excited to have Steve join the Logger community and see the continued success of our program," said Director of Athletics Amy Hackett. "Steve brings with him a consistent level of achievement and strong soccer ties within the Pacific Northwest which will continue to boost our presence in the region."

Mohn's playing career included time at Highline College, and the University of Washington with the Huskies advancing in the NCAA Championship in each year Mohn was on the team. Mohn earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from UW in 2008.

Following his collegiate career, Mohn played for the Kitsap Pumas and the Seattle Sounders FC U23 teams. He currently plays for the Tacoma Stars. In 2024 he was inducted into the NWAC Hall of Fame.

Mohn replaces Reece Olney as the head coach, who had served as Puget Sound's head coach for 29 years and captured four Northwest Conference titles. For the 2023 season, Assistant Coach Sam Zisette '16, stepped in to serve as the interim head coach and achieved an overall winning record of 8-5-5. Zisette is currently the co-founder and President of FC Ballard.

Mohn will begin his post March 18, 2024.
