After leading Fayetteville State women's basketball to the most successful season in program history with an interim tag, Tyreece Brown has been officially named Broncos head coach.

Fayetteville State Athletic Director Todd Bennett made the announcement Thursday following his recommendation to senior leadership and the FSU Board of Trustees, a university news release stated.

"Coach Brown has consistently demonstrated the utmost professionalism throughout the season and during this process," Bennett was quoted in the release. "His unwavering commitment to the team has been truly remarkable. The positive impact he has had on our players as a leader and mentor cannot be overstated. We are fortunate to have him as an invaluable member of our team."

Brown, from Philadelphia, helped FSU reach the CIAA championship game in 2005 as a point guard captain. He joined the Broncos women's basketball staff in 2011 and was named interim head coach following the departure of coach Serena King-Coleman prior to the 2023-24 season.

In his first year, Brown delivered the winningest season in team history (29-3), the fifth CIAA Tournament championship in program history and second in the last four years, and the Broncos' deepest NCAA Tournament run, sending them to their first-ever Sweet 16.

The Broncos swept the league's top honors, too. Brown was named CIAA Coach of the Year, and Broncos Aniylah Bryant and Morgan Graham were named CIAA Player of the Year and CIAA Defensive Player of the Year, respectively. Bryant also was named a CIAA Tournament MVP and an All-Atlantic Region first-teamer.

It was more than enough to earn Brown the official title of head coach.

"I am grateful to Chancellor Darrell Allison and AD Bennett for placing their trust in me and giving me the opportunity to lead this program," Brown said in the press release. "The unwavering support that both the program and I have received has had a profound impact on the success that FSU has achieved this season."
