MacDonald Steps Down as Wilkes Field Hockey Head Coach
WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University field hockey head coach
Charlotte MacDonald has stepped down from her position as coach of the Colonels after serving in the role for two seasons.
MacDonald plans to pursue a degree in snow science with the hopes of becoming an avalanche forecaster for backcountry skiing and obtaining an internship in New Hampshire at the Mount Washington Avalanche Center.
During her first season in 2021 she mentored two All-MAC Freedom selections including First Team member Morghan Murphy. Murphy was also named Second Team All-Region by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Nine Colonels were named to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad while
Lauren Shiplett (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) earned the NFHCA Division III Scholar of Distinction award. The Colonels as a whole earned distinction as a 2021 NFHCA Division III National Academic Team under MacDonald's leadership.
This past season MacDonald coached two All-MAC Freedom performers as Shiplett and
Maura Hensel (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) were both named Second Team selections.
Wilkes will begin a national search to find its next field hockey head coach.
