Madison Sullivan Named as MIT Softball Head Coach

Cambridge, Mass. (November 21) -- Madison Sullivan has been named as the MIT softball head coach/physical education and wellness instructor, as announced by Dr. G. Anthony Grant, MIT director of athletics/DAPER department head.

"I am very pleased to have Maddie as our next softball head coach and physical education and wellness instructor," said Dr. Grant. "As our interim head coach for the fall season and as an assistant coach prior, Maddie has provided sound leadership for the team and has demonstrated that she is the right fit for DAPER and our softball program. With her experience both as a coach and a former Division III student-athlete, I am excited to see how she will guide our softball team as we build on the history of excellence within the program."

Most recently, Sullivan was the interim head coach for the softball team during the fall season while also serving as the assistant director of public health at Boston University Student Health Services. She was also the director of Covid-19 Management at BU, where she managed eight direct reports and a 70-member staff. On the softball field, Sullivan served as an assistant coach for the Engineers since August 2019 and helped the team to an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2022 as MIT advanced to the NCAA Regional Final.

"I want to thank Dr. Grant, Barb Bolich, the search committee, and the DAPER staff for selecting me to lead the MIT softball program," said Sullivan. "This position offers a unique opportunity to coach, educate and be fully integrated into the MIT community and I feel honored to be chosen for this role. I look forward to building on the success of the softball program and will continue to foster an environment where our student-athletes can excel. This is a special place and I'm excited to get started!"

Sullivan was a four-year member of the Brandeis University softball team, where she served as a team captain in 2016. She graduated from Brandeis with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Health: Science, Society and Policy. Sullivan then earned her Masters of Public Health: Epidemiology and Chronic Disease Prevention from Boston University in January 2021.
