COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Ground was officially broken on the new Maryland Softball Player Development Center on Thursday. Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics Damon Evans, head coach Lauren Karn along with the senior class of Terrapins highlighted the ceremony by breaking down a wall to signal the beginning of work on the new state of the art facility.  

The impressive facility will allow softball student-athletes the opportunity to train year round in a controlled environment, allowing them to continue to hone their skills regardless of the conditions. The 5,800 square foot facility will have defined spaces for both pitchers and hitters in a climate controlled environment. It will also feature pitching and hitting technology for the use of increased analytics. This project is one of the many as part of Maryland's Building Champions initiative, a campaign that has already seen the completion of Jones Hill House, football's indoor facility, and a brand new facility dedicated to the perennial national championship competing field hockey and women's lacrosse programs. In June of 2023, Maryland began work on the Barry P. Gossett Basketball Performance Center, the new home and practice facility for the men's and women's basketball programs. In February 2024, ground was broken on the Stanley Bobb Baseball Player Development Center.  

The Terps open Big Ten play this Friday against Minnesota.
