Schwartz steps down after eight years leading the WolfPack

Winningest coach in women's soccer history led team to one national tournament appearance

Madison College women's soccer head coach Matt Schwartz is stepping down after leading the program for eight seasons. Schwartz, who became the school's second women's soccer coach when he took over the program in 2016, led the WolfPack to an appearance at the 2017 NJCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships.

"It has been a ride of ups and down - mostly ups - but I will always remember the players that I've coached and the people I've worked with that have helped me succeed," stated Schwartz. "Growing the women's soccer program for the last eight years was an exciting challenge. It's now time for a new challenge for me and a new coach to take the helm at Madison College"

Over his eight seasons, Schwartz amassed a .673 winning percentage with an overall record of 76-34-11. His teams went 38-12-3 (.745) en route to winning six consecutive North Cental Community College Conference Championships before the conference dissolved in 2023. The WolfPack appeared in six straight NJCAA Region 4 championship matches and came away with four titles in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2022. The 2017 squad that broke through the and won the program's first conference and region banners, and reached #3 in the NJCAA Division III Poll, claimed a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory over Anoka-Ramsey Community College in the NJCAA Great Lakes District final to earn a berth in the national tournament.

"I am so appreciative of everything Matt has done and has accomplished with his student-athletes in the women's soccer program at Madison College," commented Director of Athletics Jason Verhelst. "The foundation that Matt has built will certainly contribute to the program's future success. We wish him nothing but the very best as he takes on new challenges."

During Schwartz tenure, Madison College women's soccer produced its first NJCAA All-American in 2018, starting a string of five consecutive years with an All-American honoree. In addition, Schwartz guided four N4C Most Valuable Players, four Region 4 Players of the Year, four Region 4 Tournament MVPs, 43 all-conference, and 54 all-region players. He was named N4C and Region 4 Coach of the Year four times, respectively.

Schwartz began his Madison College coaching career as an assistant for the men's program for three years before taking over the women's team. He reprised his role with the men's team during the 2020-21 season.
