SUNY New Paltz Athletics, Wellness & Recreation Announce Opening of New Fueling Station

New Paltz NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz Athletics, Wellness & Recreation Department is proud to announce a new fueling station for student-athletes with the grand opening set for April 4.

"We want to provide our student-athletes with the best experience possible and we value the commitment they make to intercollegiate athletics," said Hawks Director of Athletics, Wellness & Recreation Renee Bostic. "We hope they utilize the space to help fuel their day."

The new fueling station was funded through the Student Affairs block grant with the Hawks working alongside campus food provider Sodexo, and Campus Registered Dietitian Kelly Pearson, RD, CDN to help stock food items for the new facility.

The new fueling station will supply nutritional snacks including an assortment of protein bars, oatmeal, Ramen, pretzels, and other bagged items, along with a cooling jug and microwave for student-athletes that need nutritional support throughout the day.

"I am pleased we are able to offer a fueling station to our student-athletes," said Assistant Director, and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee staff advisor Matt Giufre. "Their physical, mental, and emotional health are extremely important to us. The fueling station is a place where they can grab a snack and interact with one another to continue to foster Hawk pride."

The fueling station will be located downstairs in room 108M near Elting Pool with the room doubling as a study room. Along with supplementing student-athlete nutritional needs, the Hawks Fueling Station was created to provide student-athletes with a place to connect, engage and nourish their bodies and minds.

The hope is the new fueling station will help student-athletes who are need in a quick re-fuel throughout the day, as they balance their time between class, practice, film and other day-to-day tasks as they strive to succeed to the best of their ability on and off their playing arena.

"We are really excited for the fueling station," said SUNY New Paltz women's basketball senior and SAAC President Madison Mullman. "As athletes, we run from practice to class, so we are happy that if we forget something to eat there are options for us at the fueling station. Having this allows us to still take care of our bodies while balancing the time between school and athletics."

The Hawks Athletics, Wellness & Recreation Department will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to inaugurate the new facility April 4 at 5:30 p.m. The Department will then hold an Academic Honors ceremony for High Achieving Hawks, both 4.0 GPA student-athletes and Chi Alpha Sigma Inductees following in the Hawk Center at 6:30 p.m.
