Position Summary

Join Whitworth University and serve as an Assistant Swim Coach, where you'll play a pivotal role in mentoring and inspiring student-athletes to excel in both their athletic and personal growth journeys.

As a key member of our coaching staff, you'll support the development of our men's and women's swim teams, contributing to recruiting efforts, refining individual athlete skills, and strategically planning practices. Your responsibilities will extend to coordinating travel, providing mentorship, overseeing meet setups, and assisting with various administrative tasks.

Core Responsibilities

Swim Coaching | 60%

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of practices.
  • Individual athlete development: skill, speed and strength training, and conditioning
  • Commit time, energy, and thought into mentoring and investing in the lives of the student-athletes in the program.
Recruiting and Team Support | 30%
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of qualified student-athletes.
  • Assist in the organization and administration of team travel.
  • Assist in the organization and administration of home meets.
Other | 10% 
  • Assist with Athletic Department projects and events.
  • Other duties as assigned by the head coach.

Qualifications | Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree is required and Whitworth considers candidates with a wide range of educational backgrounds. We value the skills and knowledge candidates bring to Whitworth, regardless of the paths they have taken to acquire them.
  • Experience and track record of building positive relationships with athletes, parents, and fellow coaches, while cultivating a supportive and inclusive team environment.
  • Experience and passion for cultivating student athletes' potential.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to support the head coach in program development, technique refinement, and team cohesion.
  • Ability and leadership skills to effectively identify and resolve problems while maintaining confidentiality. 
  • Strong communication skills, adept at fostering positive relationships with student-athletes, colleagues, and athletic stakeholders.
  • Strong work ethic and high level of personal integrity. 
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Participation in intercollegiate swimming.
  • Previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level.
