MACON, Ga. – Mercer Director of Athletics Jim Cole announced Monday that the school accepted the resignation of head volleyball coach
Derek Schroeder.
"I'd like to thank Derek for his dedication and contributions to Mercer Athletics," Cole said. "We appreciate the leadership and guidance he provided the Bears' volleyball program both on and off the court. We wish Derek the best in his next chapter."
Schroeder guided the Bears to the first two Southern Conference regular season titles in program history in back-to-back seasons. He had nine players earn All-SoCon postseason honors, including
Megan Smith who was named the 2021 SoCon Libero of the Year. Schroeder was selected as the 2020-21 SoCon Coach of the Year.
"I would like to thank Jim and Sybil for the opportunity to coach here at Mercer University," Schroeder said. "I am very proud of the numerous 'first time in program history' accomplishments we were all able to achieve together, and Jenna and I will miss the relationships we built through Mercer Volleyball."
A national search for Mercer's next head volleyball coach is underway.
