Tommy Peifer Named Interim Head Men’s Soccer Coach

Clarks Summit, PA – From student, to Graduate Assistant, to Head Coach, the Clarks Summit University Athletic Department has named Tommy Peifer Interim Head Coach for the Men's Soccer Program. He is currently pursuing his Master of Science degree in Education at Clarks Summit University, with the anticipated graduation date of 2024.

After stepping foot on Clarks Summit University Campus as a freshman in 2018, Peifer earned his Bachelor of Science degree in May of 2022 in Health and Physical Education. "Coach Tommy" took the field for the first time, under Coach Keltner, during preseason in August of 2018. "After one visit, I knew I needed to attend CSU. It just felt right." Peifer would soon become a role model for his fellow athletes, starting 12 of that season's 13 games as a freshman, and was named a team captain his senior year.

With the CSU Recreational Center being an important part of the soccer season during inclement weather, Peifer became the Head Facilitator for Floor Maintenance in his senior year, serving not only just his team but anyone who uses the facility. The development of his attention to detail aided in his service as Graduate Assistant for the Men's Soccer team the following year. "Since becoming a part of the athletic department, I have noticed a desire in the staff to make a difference in the lives of the athletes and to push them to become men and women of Christ. There is a clear care to see student-athletes thrive in every way possible."

Following a 6-9-3 year under Coach Joseph Tibbs, the program looks to improve to at least seven wins in the season, a first since 2011. Coach Tommy plans to "help grow the soccer program to a team that is regularly competing for the conference title and NCAA tournament." He continues, "[my goal] is to not only bring in good athletes, but student-athletes that also meet the mission of the school, have that desire to grow in their faith, and be a Godly witness to our neighboring schools as well as the schools we play."

With the career hopes of leading a soccer team, Peifer takes the reigns eager to disciple the team and grow as a head coach. "I am excited to have the opportunity to grow in my leadership, to have the creative ability to push the guys physically, mentally, and spiritually as we go into the spring season." With the start of the spring season, Director of Athletics, Mike Show enthusiastically welcomes Peifer to the role. "I am excited for Coach Peifer to coach our team in the interim. He brings toughness, knowledge of the game, and a love for the Lord. He will continue to build on the culture that we have with our soccer team."
