Term-in-Ology:Incoming Student-Athletes Practicing Before First Day of Classes
Although Division I semester-schools’ classes likely have begun, quarter-schools in Division I may still be a week or two away before their first day of classes.
Per NCAA rules, a student-athlete may practice during the official vacation period immediately preceding initial enrollment, provided the student has been accepted by the institution for enrollment in a regular, full-time program of studies at the time of the individual's initial participation; is no longer enrolled in the previous educational institution; and is eligible under all institutional and NCAA requirements.
Athletics Veritas is presented for information purposes only and should not be considered advice or counsel on NCAA compliance matters. For guidance on NCAA rules and processes, always consult your university’s athletics compliance office, conference office, and/or the NCAA.
