Assistant Athletic Director Steve Corder '98 Appointed Vice Chair of the NCAA Division I Legislative Committee

INDIANAPOLIS (10/2/2024) -- University of Detroit Mercy Assistant Athletic Director and former Titan men's soccer student-athlete Steve Corder '98 is helping reshape the future of collegiate athletics as the newly appointed Vice Chair of the NCAA Division I Legislative Committee.

"I am honored to represent the University of Detroit Mercy and the Horizon League in this position as we continue to navigate the changing collegiate athletics landscape," said Corder.

The Legislative Committee's primary responsibility is to review and make recommendations to the NCAA Division 1 Council regarding the merits of legislative proposals.  The committee communicates voting positions to proposal sponsors, recommends amendments for consideration, and coordinates legislation discussions at the NCAA Convention. The Legislative Committee also serves as the final appellate body for decisions made by the NCAA Division I Legislative Review and Interpretations Committees.

Corder is currently in his second year as the Horizon League representative for the NCAA Division I Council and in his 24th year as head of UDM's compliance department, taking over as Detroit Mercy's Compliance Coordinator in 2000.

During his time, he has served as a sports supervisor for several Titan varsity sports. He has also served as commissioner of the National Lacrosse Conference; chair of the Horizon League Compliance Committee and Horizon League Governance Cabinet;  Administrative Liaison for the Horizon League Soccer Coaches Committee; and as a member of the NCAA Women's Soccer Regional Ranking Committee. He has also presented at the NACDA Convention and the NCAA Regional Rules Seminar.

Corder graduated from Detroit Mercy in 1998 and was a member of the men's soccer program during his tenure. He was also an assistant men's soccer coach and associate head coach from 1999 to 2008.
