Colby Phillips Named as UMPI's Women's Soccer Coach

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – Executive Director of Athletics & Recreation, Dan Kane, is pleased to announce the hiring of Colby Phillips as the University of Maine at Presque Isle's Head Women's Soccer Coach.

Kane Said, "We are very excited to announce our hiring of Coach Phillips. Throughout the search process, Coach Phillips impressed us with his passion and vision for the game of soccer and our program. He is committed to maintaining a high expectation for academics and the overall athletics experience for his student athletes." Kane continued, "He is a team player and will be a great addition to our athletic department staff and our campus community."

Phillips has twelve years of coaching experience at the high school level, coaching not only soccer, but also cross country and track & field. Phillips' most recent success comes from the 2021 season where he helped lead Mars Hill Bible School's girls varsity team to their first Alabama High School Athletics Association (AHSAA) Final Four appearance in 12 years. This, just a year after helping to lead the Monroe County High School boys soccer team to a district championship in the 2020 season, their first ever. Phillips also added an AHSAA State Runner-Up in 2012 and a AHSAA Final Four appearance in 2013 while with Athens High School's girls team. He has also coached at Madison Academy and Athens Bible School.

Coach Phillips is from Athens, Alabama, where he earned a Bachelors in Liberal Studies/History in 2016 at Athens State University and is currently studying for his Masters in Education at the University of West Alabama. While attending Freed Hardeman University and the University of North Alabama, Phillips was a dual sport athlete, playing both soccer and running cross country for 3 years. 

Philips currently resides in Florence, Alabama with his wife Emily and their son Silas. Phillips will recruit remotely while he finishes his current season with the Mars Hill Bible School's varsity girls program before making the move to Maine.
