The Associate Athletics Director, Compliance & Administration works to support the mission and integrity of the Johns Hopkins University and the Athletics Department. Demonstrating adherence to the department philosophy, facility and staff schedule, equipment and facility maintenance expectations, and communication responsibilities is essential.  The strongest candidates will have a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment and a strong history of building and sustaining relationships with staff, student-athletes, and coaches., The individual works to develop and formulate future plans to reach institutional and departmental goals, to lead initiatives and to create an excellent experience for our students through their participation in athletics. Reporting to the Deputy Athletic Director, the position directly oversees: NCAA Rules Compliance & Reporting, Division I Financial Aid/Scholarship, Student-Athlete Name-Image-Likeness (NIL), and multiple sport programs.   In addition, this individual has dotted line supervision of the Associate Director for Student-Athlete Success and will also serve a member of the game operations staff. 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

 

Compliance:

  • Oversees rules compliance for two NCAA Division I sports and 22 varsity Division III sports.

  • Manages the NLI and athletics scholarship process for NCAA Division I sports and oversees the financial aid guidelines for all student-athletes as the primary athletics contact to Student Financial Services.

  • Supervises departmental reporting to the Federal Government, MHEC and NCAA to include the annual Campus Sexual Violence Attestation, EADA report (in conjunction with Associate AD, Business), APR and graduation rate data, sports sponsorship & demographics, and financial aid.

  • Has dotted line supervision of the Associate Director of Student-Athlete Success and assists in identifying eligibility/retention concerns, as well as the resolution of any issues therein.

  • Chairs committees for NCAA mandated multi-divisional review

  • Informs the Office of General Counsel/Chief University Compliance Officer regularly of NCAA compliance updates and/or concerns.

  • Oversees the department’s NIL program, to include review of student-athlete disclosures and managing the relationship with external marketplaces (Opendorse and NIL Store).

External Student Affairs Responsibilities:

  • Acts as primary athletics department liaison to the Office of Institutional Equity, including serving on the SVAC, and supporting Title IX/OIE processes as a Campus Navigator and Resolution Panelist.

  • Serves Student Conduct & Ethics as the Athletics Department conduct officer and member of the Bi-Weekly Behavioral Meeting. Also supports the conduct process as a member of the Student Conduct Board.

  • Partner with Leadership Engagement & Experiential Development (LEED) as the primary registration approver for all athletics student-group events.

Game Operations Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a member of the department Game Operations team as directed by the Associate AD/Facilities and Operations, and in accordance with department game day protocols

  • May assist in administration of championships hosted on campus

General Athletics Administration:

  • Sport administrator for various varsity athletic programs (DIII). Duties include direct supervision of coaches; oversight of teams; assist with administrative and/or team issues as they arise; travel with teams as necessary (to include all away championships); engagement with alumni/donors/families as appropriate.

  • Serves as the POC for the NCAA student-athlete drug testing program.

  • Oversight of other external systems such as ARMS and Teamworks.

  • Administers the Student-Athlete Survey, and catalogs/responds to general student-athlete feedback received via other channels (Real Response, JHU Hotline).

  • Plan and execute annual student-athlete annual compliance orientation.

  • Maintains/annually updates athletics department student-athlete handbook.

  • Member of the Athletic Director’s Cabinet.

  • Represents the athletics department at selected home and away varsity athletic contests.

  • Handles other responsibilities and special projects as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

  • May be called upon to serve on campus-wide committees and/or working groups as needed.

  • May potentially serve as the department Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • Three years related work experience in a collegiate athletics environment.

  • Excellent communications skills and ability to work well with others.

  • Knowledge of basic software packages.

  • Understanding of athletics administration in a university environment.

  • Ability to maintain appropriate discretion/confidentiality as needed.

  • Commitment to unwavering integrity.

 

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • Master's Degree preferred.

  • Athletic administration experience preferred.

 

Key Relationships:

The Associate Athletic Director, Compliance & Administration is directly supervised by the Deputy Athletic Director.

 

Physical Effort/Environment:

General office, athletic facility, and campus environment. Must be able to work additional hours during athletic events, including nights and weekends and will require occasional travel. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Walking, standing, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 50 pounds in coaching and training situations may be required. Computer usage involving repetitive and/wrist motion is required. The position will be a full-time, fiscal year appointment, with frequent evening and weekend work required throughout the year with those dates determined by a supervisor.
