Todd Hibbs named Director of Athletics

Hibbs has vast experience at the DIII level, most recently at Alma

ALBION -- Albion College has named Todd Hibbs as its next athletics director. The appointment is effective April 1.

"This is an incredible opportunity to help advance the strong athletic tradition of Albion College," said Hibbs. "I am very excited and anxious to get started."

"Todd has demonstrated the depth of his skills and was such a great fit for this position. We look forward to great things as he helps Albion athletics continue its strong forward progress," said Joe Calvaruso, interim president of Albion College.

"We are excited for him to share his depth and breadth of experience not only in athletics but also in higher education and DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) work," said Leroy Wright, vice president of student development and dean of students at Albion College. "He's focused on student athletes and mentoring coaches. He values belonging, mental health and well-being, as well as being committed to elevating, and celebrating all that matters at Albion College and in the MIAA."

Hibbs has been the assistant athletics director for development and external relations, as well as the director of wrestling, at Alma since 2021. He served as Alma's head wrestling coach from 2011-16 before leaving to pursue his doctorate degree at Central Michigan University.

During his tenure at Alma, he helped the school become one of the NCAA's elite programs academically. Alma ranked as high as second in academic standing for Division III and featured eight National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-Americans. He also helped raise nearly $4 million for a new addition to the Alma athletics center.

Before joining Alma, Hibbs served as the director of athletics for Hiram College in Ohio from 2019-20.

Prior to Alma, Hibbs served as vice president for advancement, assistant professor and head wrestling coach at Olivet College from 2004-11. Hibbs worked at Michigan State University in several capacities from 1990-2000.

Hibbs is currently working on his doctoral degree at Central Michigan University, with expected completion later this year. He has a master's degree in health education and human performance from Michigan State University and a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Mount Union.

He is also a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
