Hopkins Named To USA Team Coaching Staff

Gordon College Men's and Women's Rowing's head coach Maddie Hopkins has been assigned to the USA Team Coaching Staff as of Monday, February 13, 2023 where the 2018 Gordon graduate will lead the US World University Games team with Cory Conzemius of Oklahoma City University.

The 2021 COVID rescheduled FISU World University Games will take place in early August, in Chengdu, China. The USA Team has begun selection, with intention to finalize the racing roster by April 1st, and will be training out of Oklahoma City in July.

During her time as a student-athlete at Gordon, Hopkins founded the rowing program before joining the Fighting Scots' coaching staff in 2018 where she has drastically elevated the Rowing program, including making the change over from a club to varsity sport while. As a Scot, Hopkins led her team to multiple extraordinary finishes including silver at Dad Vail in 2016, medaling annually in the 1x at Head of the Fish, and a seventh place finish at the American Collegiate Rowing Association Championships before coaching and rowing in a women's intermediate quad out of Gordon Rowing Club that finished fifth at Club Nationals, and a 2x that placed third at Sweeps and Sculls in Narragansett in the summer of 2018 to cap off her first season as head coach. In addition to coaching the Scots, Hopkins also coached with Kindersculls Rowing Camps prior to coming to Gordon (2013-2017), and continues to run programming for the camps. Under her leadership, the Fighting Scots earned multiple wins with highlights including their performances at the 2021 and 22 Dad Vail Golds where they raced against the top rowers in the nation from many established universities. Hopkins also coached her squad to an outstanding sixth place finish in the lightweight women's division at the IRAs in 2022.

"What a huge honor it is to be helping to lead this team and I'm excited for what a boost it will give our program visibility and recruiting" stated Hopkins.
