MOAA Names Five New Board Members

Beginning for the 2023-24 Year

CLEVELAND - The Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA) will welcome the following individuals to its Board of Directors following the 2022 Symposium – John Ashaolu (Point Park University), Derek Horne (Temple University), Katreshia Louis-Verrett (University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB)), Alic'a Oliver (University of North Texas) and Davon Robb (Towson University). 

In August 2018, Ashaolu (complete bio) was appointed director of athletics at Point Park University. Since that time, the department has flourished, reaching new heights in competitive success, academic achievement, and community engagement. Ashaolu has also developed community and sponsor engagement programs that have led to significant increases in external revenue generation and multiple facility upgrades. Prior to coming to Point Park, Ashaolu served as the system-wide director of athletics at the Community College of Allegheny County overseeing athletics on four campuses.  From 2014-18, Ashaolu served as the director of athletics and student programs at the Community College of Beaver County.  Ashaolu started his career in college athletics by working on the men's basketball staffs at Trinity Valley Community College, Duquesne University and East Carolina University.  Ashaolu is active on the university, conference and national levels, as he serves on the board of the Business of Small College Athletics (BOSCA) and several NAIA and MOAA committees.  He also holds memberships with NAADD and NACDA. 

Horne (complete bio) is in his first year as executive senior associate athletics director for strategic initiatives and sports at Temple University. Horne oversees marketing, fan engagement, ticket sales, video production and is the men's basketball sports administrator for Temple. He recently served seven years as the director of athletics at Alcorn State University (2014-21). During Horne's tenure at Alcorn State, football won four SWAC Championships and became the first-ever institution to host a football SWAC Championship game. Horne also served at the helm of Florida A&M University from 2010-13. During his three years, football won the 2010 MEAC Championship, with men's and women's cross country winning the conference title in 2012. The Quitman, Ga. native began his career as the senior associate athletics director at his alma mater, Ole' Miss ('87) in 1995. A four-year Ole Miss basketball team member, Horne spearheaded the school's correspondence and development with former athletes. 

As a former Division I track and field student-athlete, Louis-Verrett (complete bio) is an educator, lawyer, and has over 12 years as an athletics administrator. She recognizes the complex yet rewarding appeal the world of college athletics has to offer. Having vast experience in NCAA compliance, fundraising, capital projects, student-athlete development and engagement, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Title IX.  Her background in education and law and her quest for empowering coaches and student leaders have always driven her to excel. Louis-Verrett is active in Women Leader in College Sports, MOAA and NAAC. Currently, she is the chair of the Division I Pre-Enrollment Amateurism Certification Committee and is a member of the Division I Student-Athlete Experience Committee. Currently at UAB, she serves as the university's first chief diversity officer, while also serving as the SWA and Deputy Title IX administrator.  Louis-Verrett is sport administrator providing guidance to 12 coaches, over 95 student-athletes, and more than 35 support staff. She is also a graduate of the NCAA Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute.  

Oliver (complete bio) joined North Texas as the director of compliance in September 2018, and was elevated to senior associate athletic director of compliance and DEI in October of 2022. In her current role, she is tasked with oversight of the compliance office, while working to evaluate and implement impactful programming for student-athletes, coaches and administration to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.  Prior to joining the Mean Green, Oliver was a director of compliance at the University of Tennessee for just over three years after previously serving as the compliance coordinator at Kansas State University. A native of Missouri City, Texas, Oliver earned her bachelor's degree in from the University of Texas. She then graduated from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University, where she also joined the LSU Athletics Office of Compliance as a legal extern. 

Robb (complete bio) joined the Towson Athletics staff as the assistant AD for facilities and event management in August 2019 and provides leadership to the athletics facilities management group and serves as a member of the senior staff and is the sport administrator for women's soccer. Prior to arriving at Towson Robb served as the associate director of football and basketball operations for the Big Ten Conference. Before joining the Big Ten, he worked at both Loyola University Chicago and Northwestern University. He is an alum of the Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute and the NCAA Post Graduate Internship Program. Robb was a football student-athlete at the University of Virginia where he graduated in 2007 with bachelor's degree in anthropology. In 2010, he earned his master's degree in sports management from Northwestern. In addition to MOAA, Robb is also a member of Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association (CEFMA).
