HANOVER, N.H. — Mike Harrity, the Haldeman Family Director of Athletics and Recreation, announced today that Dartmouth has extended the contract of Alex McFadden, the Josie Harper Head Coach of Women's Lacrosse, through the 2028 season. McFadden is currently in her fourth season at the helm of the program.

"I have every confidence that Alex McFadden is the right person to elevate our women's lacrosse program to new heights," Harrity said. "As a player and as a coach, Alex has consistently performed at a championship level. She understands Dartmouth and what it takes to help young women maximize their growth and potential here. We couldn't be more excited about working closely with her in the years ahead."

The fifth head coach in the 50 years of the Big Green women's lacrosse program, McFadden was hired following the 2019 season from the University of Colorado, where she was the associate head coach. Her first year on the Dartmouth sideline was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which ruined a 5-0 start that included victories over 13th-ranked UMass and fifth-ranked Florida.

Perseverance has been at the forefront of McFadden's tenure at Dartmouth as all but one game of the 2021 season was lost to the pandemic as well. She finally got the opportunity to coach a full season last spring, mentoring four players to All-Ivy League honors along the way.

During her four years at Colorado, McFadden helped the Buffaloes amass a record of 54-23, reaching the NCAA Tournament in her final three seasons with first-round wins in both 2018 and 2019 (one of which came against Dartmouth). She also served as an assistant at Boston College from 2013-15, during which time the Eagles were 42-18, advancing to the NCAA Tournament each year. Her work as the recruiting coordinator at both institutions was crucial to both teams' successes.

A three-time All-American and two-time captain at Northwestern, McFadden was instrumental in helping the Wildcats win three national titles during her playing career. She was also named to the Academic All-Big Ten Team three times, honored as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year.

Dartmouth opens the 2023 season this Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. when New Hampshire comes to Scully-Fahey Field in Hanover. Admittance is free, but for those that are unable to attend, the game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Matt Corsetti calling the action.
