Drury cuts ribbon on new Triathlon Training Center and locker room

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Drury University cut the ribbon on Wednesday, Oct. 4, to a new Triathlon Training Center and locker room. The new facility, located in the Hutchens HYPR Center, includes a state-of-the-art cycling studio with video and computer interaction. The locker room also includes a secured area for bicycle storage.

An anonymous donor supplied a significant lead gift to the project that totaled $350,000.

"This was a project that began about a year and a half ago," said Drury Executive Vice President for University Advancement, Marie Muhvic. "I want the triathlon team members to know that we are very fortunate to have had donors step forward because this project doesn't happen without their generosity. The work of our student-athletes and what they stand for in representing our institution helped inspire these gifts."

"I want to show our deepest gratitude to someone who chose to stay in the shadows – our anonymous donor," said Drury Triathlon head coach David Winton. "You've given us, not only the resources, but a profound message of selflessness and support. In a world where recognition is often sought, you remind us of the purest form of giving, where the act itself is the reward. Your generosity will inspire countless student-athletes who will train and compete here. We may not know your name, but with every stride, stroke, and pedal, we will feel your presence guiding and cheering us on."

The Drury triathlon program was launched in 2015 and has competed on a regular basis since 2018. The roster has grown from four student-athletes five years ago to 14 on the current roster. The team will host the NCAA West Region qualifier on Oct. 14 at Fellows Lake.
