Javelinas add Rachel Steinbarger in new role as Assistant AD for Academic Success

TAMUK adds new position in further support of student-athletes in the classroom

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M University -Kingsville and Javelina Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Rachel Steinbarger as the new Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Success. 

Steinbarger comes to Kingsville with a wealth of experience in college athletics as a student-athlete, coach, and administrator, most recently serving as a coordinator of outreach and admissions at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, Washington. 

Prior to that she served in the role of Associate Athletic Director and Senior Women's Administrator at the University of Fort Lauderdale where she oversaw compliance. 

"I am very excited to add Rachel to this new position," said Athletic Director Steve Roach. "Rachel's background and experience will be an asset to our department and specifically, our student-athletes. Her commitment to student-athlete development and academic success will benefit our student-athletes not only during their time in Kingsville, but for the rest of their lives." 

In the new role, Steinbarger will oversee the academic progress and professional development for all active Javelina student-athletes while also serving as the administrative coordinator with the department's Student Athlete Advisory Committee. 

Steinbarger began her professional career in college athletics, coaching women's basketball in 2012 as both an assistant and head coach with stops at Franklin College, Lancaster Bible College, the University of Great Falls, and Madonna University. 

While in those coaching positions she also fulfilled administrative duties as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Franklin College and Senior Women's Administrator at Madonna before leaving for Fort Lauderdale. 

Furthering her qualifications, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana Wesleyan University, a Master of Arts in Christian Ministries with an Emphasis in Leadership and Masters of Science degree in Exercise Science from Liberty University and is currently pursuing a doctorate in sport performance psychology with specialization in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Western States.
