Elmira College Announces Addition of Competitive Dance in 2024-25 Academic Year

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Department of Athletics, in conjunction with Elmira College, has formally announced the addition of Club Competitive Dance as an addition to its current 16 varsity sports at the institution.

In addition to Elmira's three-time National Champion and current varsity cheerleading program, which is a part of the National Cheerleaders Association's (NCA) Competitive Cheerleading, the Competitive Dance Club has the opportunity to compete at the NCA/NDA Nationals hosted each April in Daytona Beach, Florida, as part of the Competitive Dance section.

Head Elmira College Cheerleading coach Amber Myers will serve as advisor to the Competitive Dance club in addition to her current role, while the Danceline Club will remain a student-driven organization which performs at college and local events.

"Both competitive cheer and competitive dance have exponentially grown over the past few years, and with adding competitive dance as an EC Athletic Club, we can now provide many more athletes the opportunity to compete at the regional and national levels," said Myers.

The addition of Competitive Dance adds a third area of dance/cheer to the Elmira College community, joining the already existing Elmira College Danceline Club, as well as varsity Competitive Cheer.

"Even though cheerleading has been my career over the past 17 years, competitive dance was my first passion growing up and is what actually brought me into cheer in the first place. On a personal level, I am very excited and motivated at this new challenge. I truly believe that with the already-existing hard work that Danceline puts in as a student-run club, now with the help of recruiting and athletics we can bring more dancers into Elmira College and build towards a National Championship caliber program."

Competitive Dance will begin at Elmira during the 2024-25 academic year. For more information surrounding the recruitment process or joining the club, please contact Amber Myers at amyers@elmira.edu or fill out the Dance Recruitment Form
