Strategic Communications Internship
Job Description

The Strategic Communications Intern will assist in all aspects of strategic communications and media relations for the MEAC's 14 varsity sports and may be assigned to serve as the primary contact for select sports, at the discretion of the Strategic Communications office.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  1. Assisting with the maintenance of the conference website;
  2. Writing and editing press releases and weekly conference game notes;
  3. Writing, editing, and laying out conference media guides and championship programs;
  4. Assisting with day-to-day media requests from local, regional and national media outlets;
  5. Updating conference record books;
  6. Assisting with script writing and planning for weekly MEAC football pregame shows;
  7. Additional duties as assigned.
As well as other assignments as directed by the Associate Commissioner for Strategic Communications and/or the Director of Strategic Communications.

Preferred Skills and Abilities 
  • Proficiency in composing basic news releases and event recaps.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially in Photoshop and InDesign.

DELAWARE STATE UNIVERSITY
Director for Compliance
General Description of the Position
The Director of Compliance at Delaware State University will oversee and manage all aspects of compliance within the D1 Athletics program. This includes ensuring adherence to NCAA regulations, fostering a culture of ethical conduct, and implementing policies to maintain program integrity.

Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The following are the functions essential to performing this job: 
1. Develop and implement comprehensive compliance programs to uphold NCAA and university regulations. 
2. Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify and address compliance issues promptly. 
3. Collaborate with coaching staff, administrators, and student-athletes to educate on and enforce compliance standards. 
4. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to compliance activities.

Qualification Standards

SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY

Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Services
Reports to the Director of Athletics. Serves as the campus compliance liaison between the University, MEAC and NCAA. Provides ongoing rules education program for athletics staff, student-athletes, boosters, and other specific University personnel (faculty athletics representative (FAR), registrar, admissions, financial aid; institutional research, department chairs and advisors, etc.) to include updating coaches, department staff, financial aid, registrar and other campus personnel on legislation changes. Meets with each team at the beginning of each semester to discuss the teams' results: eligibility, cumulative grade point average, graduating seniors, progress towards degree, freshmen, transfer student-athletes, drug testing, etc. Maintains a compliance rules education calendar and distributes to University personnel who perform specific functions for athletics. Manages eligibility certification checklists and squad lists per NCAA, MEAC and University procedures.

Reviews compliance documents to ensure accuracy. Reviews and revises compliance manual annually (or more frequently as legislation; procedures change) and distributes to University personnel who perform specific functions for athletics. Meets bi-monthly with the University’s Athletics Committee (to include, but not limited to the FAR, registrar, admissions, financial aid, institutional research, department chairs and advisors). Investigates, prepares, and reports NCAA violations. Manages the National Letter of Intent (NLI) in accordance with NCAA and University policies and procedures. Complete the initial, continuing and transfer eligibility certification processes for student-athletes in accordance with NCAA regulations.

Manages APR for all sports sponsored by the University. Tracks Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Federal Graduation Rate (GSR) in conjunction with the FAR and institutional research staff. Manages University records on NCAA platforms such as Eligibility Center, Compliance Assistant and other platforms. Manages and/or reviews student-athlete records on platforms such as Banner, Teamworks, ARMS, Influencer, Opendorse, etc.

Monitors playing and practice seasons. Reviews and approves team travel requests for eligible student-athletes. Reviews and approves coaches’ on- and off-campus recruiting requests in accordance with NCAA rules. Provides rules interpretations. Prepares and completes NCAA and MEAC compliance reports. Manages prospective student-athlete recruiting lists in collaboration with the Admissions Office and Financial Aid to include, but not limited to, thorough reviews of transcripts to ensure progress towards degree will be met by transfers. Develops and manages a compliance intern program. Works with the Academic Support Team to develop and implement strategies to support student-athlete academic success. Evaluates direct reports as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Other duties as assigned (subject to change based upon the needs of the department).

The final candidate who will fill this position must have an on-campus presence for monitoring purposes. Therefore, telecommuting will not be permitted.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree; at least 5 years of successful experience working as an NCAA campus compliance officer. Possesses strong analytical and data coordination skills and knowledge; experience with NCAA compliance software is required. Progressive experience in athletics rules compliance and interpretation are required. Knowledge of and commitment to strict adherence of NCAA, MEAC and institutional bylaws; excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, attention to detail, and essential working knowledge of various computer systems are required.

Preferred Requirements: Master’s Degree; at least five (5) years of experience working as a Division I campus compliance officer.
