NJCU Alumnus Ray Addas Appointed to Lead Women's Bowling Program

UCHS Hall of Famer Set to Continue Program's Historical Excellence

September 22, 2023

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's bowling program, one of the most successful in the history of the sport since NCAA sponsorship began, has officially begun a new era. Interim Director of Athletics Robert Cole announced the appointment of Hall of Famer Ray Addas — who has earned two degrees from NJCU — as the Gothic Knights' next head coach. Addas comes to the Green and Gold from Union City High School, where he amassed two New Jersey State Championships, four Hudson County Titles and seven North Hudson League Championships.

"In what proved to be a very competitive field, Ray Addas stood out as the next leader of our storied women's bowling program," said Cole. "Ray bleeds NJCU Green and Gold as a two-time alum. His recent induction into the Union City Hall of Fame, coupled with his Jersey City and Hudson County roots, make him the right person to continue to elevate our program for years to come. As a career educator, Ray understands the importance of a well-rounded student-athlete experience and his philosophy aligns perfectly with our nationally recognized student-athlete support services. We are excited to support Ray and our student-athletes as they write the next great chapter in NJCU women's bowling history."

Addas rejoins to his alma mater after serving as head coach at UCHS. While there, he piled up 85 victories to just 15 losses over eight seasons at the helm. He guided the careers of 17 All-Hudson County bowlers and was named HCIAL (Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic League) Coach of the Year in 2014. In addition to his 13 various championships, Addas was inducted into the Union City Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023.

"I am incredibly honored and excited to become the head coach for NJCU's women's bowling team," said Addas. 'I want to thank the athletic administration, Robert Cole and Peter Vincent, for providing me with this opportunity. As a life-long coach, I want to provide this team with the best experience and lead this program towards success."

Currently residing in West Miflord, N.J., Addas is a son of Jersey City through and through, having been born and raised here. He initially graduated cum laude from NJCU in 2005 with a bachelor of arts degree in English literature and secondary education before returning for his master of arts in educational leadership, which he graduated with magna cum laude in 2009.
