Fordham Athletics Reflects on Record Fundraising Year

Rams raise more than $5 million to support student-athletes

BRONX, N.Y.  – With fall sports well underway and basketball season just around the corner, the Fordham Athletic Department would like to thank the donors who have helped ensure continued success for student-athletes both on and off the fields of competition.

"We cannot thank our donors enough for their passion for Fordham Athletics," said Athletic Director Ed Kull. "Their leadership and generosity not only support our student-athletes during their time at Rose Hill.  To raise funds like this amid an uncertain economic climate is a true testament to the dedication of our alumni, donors and fans."

During Fiscal Year 2023, which concluded on June 30, Fordham Athletics raised $5.1 million, an increase of more than $500,000 from the year prior.  This marked the fourth consecutive year that overall fundraising dollars increased from the previous year.

Additionally, the number of individual donors supporting athletics grew from 2,369 to 2,402.

"Fundraising at this level is a total team effort," said Kull.  "I'd like to thank Director of Athletic Development Kara Field along with Shannon Lulley and Austyn Finnk for their tireless work, as well as our coaches and staff members who recognize the importance of securing the resources needed for their programs to be successful."

A number of major gifts anchored the Rams' stellar fundraising numbers this past fiscal year, including a $1.25 million challenge gift, on top of a previous $1.25 million dollar gift, from Dennis, FCRH '68, and Patricia Ann Ruppel toward the construction of a waterfront center on Eastchester Bay that will support the Fordham rowing and sailing teams.

Several programs enjoyed noticeable increases in fundraising from Fiscal Year 2022.  Water polo, women's soccer and football saw year-over-year increases of more than 25 percent while The New Era Fund, which supports both men's and women's basketball, was bolstered by more than 27 percent.
