SAINT ROSE APPOINTS TONY KURUCZ AS SOFTBALL HEAD COACH

ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose has announced Tony Kurucz as head coach of the Golden Knights softball program.

"Tony has demonstrated enormous passion and commitment to this program and the overall development of the student-athletes he serves," said Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics, Lori Anctil. "He and his staff are ensuring our Golden Knights are having a rewarding experience by providing them with a professional approach both on and off the field.  With the current success of our fall campaign, we know we are in store for an exciting spring season under Tony's leadership." 

Kurucz (pronounced like "cruise") served as the program's interim head coach this fall after spending the 2023 season in the Golden Knights dugout as an assistant. Prior to Saint Rose, Kurucz was the Softball Recruiting Coordinator/Data Analyst at Herkimer County Community College for six years, during which the Generals went 92-13 overall while collecting two straight Conference and Regional titles. HCCC also reached the NJCAA Division III National Championships two times, where the team earned two national runner-up finishes.

In 2019, Kurucz was recognized as an Easton/National Fastpitch Coach's Association (NFCA) Assistant Coach of the Year for serving as the program's defensive coordinator, first base coach and lead recruiter. In addition to his coaching responsibilities with Herkimer, Kurucz served as a College Coach Evaluator for College Sports Evaluation, LLC and as an Assistant Coach for the Dutchess Deb's Travel Softball Program.

"I appreciate the confidence and support that Lori Anctil and the Saint Rose Administration has shown in giving me this opportunity," said Kurucz. "I am very excited by the opportunity to work with this group of young woman again and looking forward to watching them grow as individuals and athletes.
