Hanover has named Michelangelo Butturi as the next Men's Lacrosse Head Coach

HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover Athletic Department is excited to announce the hiring of alum Michelangelo Butturi as the new head men's lacrosse coach. The 2016 graduate returns to the program after spending the last five seasons at Augustana College where he served as an assistant men's lacrosse coach.

"Returning to my alma mater to lead the men's lacrosse program is a true homecoming," added coach Butturi. "It's an honor and a privilege to give back to the institution that played such a pivotal role in shaping my life and my love for the sport. I am excited for the opportunity to build on the traditions and values that made me the player and person I am today."

While at Augustana, Angelo served as the team's Recruiting Coordinator as well as the Defensive Coordinator. He aided in player development through individual skill drills and team schemes and concepts. He provided analytical insight through film breakdowns developing scouting reports and helped manage the programs travel and team activities.

Lynn Hall, Vice President for Athletics said, "We are very happy to have Angelo lead our men's lacrosse program. He has good coaching experience and has a good grasp of the college student from his background in student life.  He understands what it takes to be a successful student athlete at Hanover."

Furthermore, coach Butturi worked as a Resident Life Area Coordinator at Augustana where he supervised, trained, and managed roughly 26 resident advisors. He helped oversee daily operations of three residence halls and also served as a hearing officer for all first-year and third-years students in relation to student policy violations.

The Evansville, Ind. native competed as part of the Hanover men's lacrosse team and was a key component in the early development of the program. He appeared in 48 games as a midfielder for the Blue and Red, starting all 16 games his senior season.

"Taking the reins of the men's lacrosse program is a responsibility I don't take lightly. I'm excited to instill the same pride, commitment, and work ethic in our players that I experienced as a student-athlete here. Our alumni network is stronger than ever, and I know this program is ready to work hard, have fun, and make our school proud," added coach Butturi.

The Panthers are set to open the 2024 season on Saturday, Feb. 10 when they travel to Muskingum.
