Middlebury Adds Spirit Marks to Visual Identity System

Middlebury Athletics is excited to add two spirit marks to its visual identity system on Thursday, October 19, 2023. A forward-facing panther head and a prowling panther will add new design options to the Athletics visual design system. Colleges and universities often use spirit marks to spark energy, pride, and, of course, a sense of school spirit.
 
ABOUT THE SPIRIT MARKS
While the traditional logo of the panther on the rock is the primary and quintessential mark of Middlebury College Athletics, the horizontal shape can sometimes limit its use as a design element. Although this will remain the primary logo, the new elements—a forward-facing panther and a prowling panther—will add more versatility to our design system.
 
 
ABOUT THE PANTHER-ON-THE-ROCK LOGO
In the mid-1990s, Middlebury adopted its most recent logo, the panther on the rock with the Middlebury name beneath it. In 2015, a new typeface was paired with a refreshed panther on the rock. At this time, Middlebury also adopted a block M to serve as a secondary logo.
