Rob Morgan Named First Women's Ice Hockey Coach at Keene State

New Skipper Comes With Background in Program Building

KEENE, N.H.--The Keene State College Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Rob Morgan as the inaugural coach of women's ice hockey in school history.

Morgan brings an extensive coaching background to KSC, having most recently served as the head coach of the men's club team at Cal State Northridge to a 14-3-1 record in 2023.

Prior to that, he was the head coach at NCAA Division I Long Island University, where he founded the program and compiled a record of 36-41-1 (.469) and led the Sharks to New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Championship in 2020, Commissioners Cup in 2021, and a share of the NEWHA Regular Season Title in 2022.

"I am deeply honored to be appointed as the inaugural Head Coach for Keene State College's first-ever Women's NCAA DIII Hockey team," said Morgan. "This marks the beginning of an exciting chapter in the college's history, and I'm thrilled to lead this pioneering team into uncharted territory.

Keene State College's commitment to investing in state-of-the-art facilities and equipment for both Women's and Men's ice Hockey programs is a testament to their dedication to the sport, the coaches, and most importantly to its student athletes. I look forward to building on this strong foundation and creating a program that not only excels athletically but also prioritizes academic achievement, leadership, diversity, and sportsmanship."

"We are very excited about the hiring of Rob Morgan for our inaugural Women's Ice Hockey Head Coach," said Keene State College Director of Athletics Marty Testo. "Coach Morgan brings an extensive background in not only coaching hockey, but the experience in building successful programs from the ground up! Rob will not only be a benefit to our women's hockey program, but I feel he will be a tremendous asset to our campus community."

From 2015-17, Morgan was the associate head coach at Yale University, where the Bulldogs reached the quarterfinals of the ECAC tournament in each of his two seasons.

Before relocating to Connecticut, Morgan was the first head coach of women's ice hockey at St. Norbert College, an NCAA DIII institution in De Pere, Wisconsin. Within four years, Morgan and the Green Knights had won the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association championship and appeared in the NCAA Division III tournament. Morgan won 78 games in five seasons, led the Green Knights to national rankings in 2013 and 2014, and never had a losing season during his tenure at St. Norbert.

From 2003-2009, Morgan was an assistant coach at Dartmouth College, helping the Big Green reach the NCAA tournament five times, including the Frozen Four in 2004 and 2005.

"Rob's breadth of experiences, particularly with new programs, made a big impression on the search committee," said Associate Athletic Director Abe Osheyack, who served as chair of the committee. "We look forward to having him as part of the team in the Keene State Athletic Department."

"I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Keene State College administration and the selection committee for entrusting me with this role. I am eager to get to work and am committed to fostering an environment where our student-athletes can thrive and create a legacy of success," said Morgan.

"I want to express my gratitude to my wife Rhonda, whose work as a Clinical Social Worker has shaped my understanding of empathy and community. I am thrilled to be back in our home state, and I am committed to building a strong, family-oriented program for student-athletes to reach their full potential."

Morgan holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Alberta in Physical Education, and has a master's degree in Education from the University of Lethbridge.
