Malach Joins WSU Athletics As Associate Athletic Director for Facility Operations

DETROIT -- Wayne State University Director of Athletics Erika Wallace has announced the hiring of Mike Malach as an Associate Athletic Director for Facility Operations.

"I am very excited to welcome Mike to the WSU Athletics team," stated Wallace.  "Mike's extensive experience in leading operations teams, championships, facilities, budgeting, sport/employee supervision and revenue generation will be an asset not only for Wayne State University, but our student-athletes, coaches and staff.  His leadership and guidance will fill a void that our department has had for some time now and I couldn't be happier that he has accepted this role.  Mike is exactly what this Athletic Department needs to continue our vision for growth and advancement."

"I am honored and very excited to be joining the Wayne State University Athletic Department," commented Malach.  "I am eager to work with the talented team Erika has put together to enhance the overall athletic experience of everyone involved in the program.  I want to thank everyone involved in the process and am looking forward to the future of Warrior Athletics."

Malach most recently served as the Executive Director of the Ann Arbor Sports Commission for nearly five years, where he directed the sports tourism arm of Destination Ann Arbor.  While with the AASC, Malach managed local sporting events, marketed the local sporting community to outside organizations, locally, regionally and nationally, as well as serving on the management team of Destination Ann Arbor.

Prior to joining the AASC, Malach spent 20 years at Eastern Michigan University concluding his two decades in Ypsilanti as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics.  He was the day-to-day supervisor of the athletic department's facilities, while supervising all game day operations for 21 collegiate sport programs, including conference championships.  In addition, Malach supervised a team of four full-time employees, four graduate assistants and several dozen student workers tied to the event management and facilities team.  He also managed all outside rental groups.

While with EMU, he developed strategic plans for the all the athletic facilities, along with directing all business functions of the athletic department.

Malach earned his bachelor's degree in Fitness Management from Carroll College (Waukesha, Wis.) in 1990, followed by a master's degree in Sports Administration from Eastern Kentucky in 1992.
