Whetsel Elevated to Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Administration/SWA

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University Athletics has announced the elevation of Christina Whetsel to the position of Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Administration/SWA.

"Christina has been instrumental in AU's success over the past five years, especially within the areas of NCAA compliance and academics," said Director of Athletics Ryan Erlacher. "Christina's tireless work ethic, transparent leadership, and proactive approach will allow her to excel in this new role and I have no doubt she will continue to elevate our program in many ways. We are extremely fortunate to have someone with Christina's knowledge and experience on our team."

Whetsel assumes the role after five years of serving as the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator for Augusta University Athletics. During her time here at Augusta, she continued her services on the Division II Academic Requirements Committee for the NCAA from 2016-2020, where she was the chair from 2019-2020.  She currently serves as Peach Belt Conference representative for the Division II Management Council.  In conjunction with her Management Council responsibilities, Whetsel also serves as the Vice Chair of the DII Membership Committee.  She also serves on various committees for the Peach Belt Conference and Augusta University.  Whetsel is a member of NAAC and Women's Leaders in Sport.
 
Before Augusta University, Whetsel spent 12 years with Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. In 2006 she was hired as the director of compliance and student-athlete services, before her title changed to director of athlete compliance in 2001 to better reflect her expanded responsibilities.. She served on the DII Legislation Committee from 2010 to 2013.
 
A 1999 graduate of Angelo State University, Whetsel earned her bachelor's degree in Administration.  She then went on to earn her MBA in Management from Angelo State in 2003.

Known as Christina Heck in her playing days, Whetsel was an all-conference performer for the Rambelle soccer team during the early years of the program from 1995-99. She then served as a graduate assistant coach. Whetsel still ranks among ASU's career leaders in several statistical categories and still holds the single-game and single season assists records for the Rambelles.  She also still holds the single-game assist record for the Lone Star Conference.

Christina and husband Daniel have one daughter, Norah.
