Position Summary:

Under director supervision of the Deputy Athletic Director of External Affairs and Revenue Generation with a secondary line of oversight by the Deputy Athletic Director for Compliance and Legal Affairs, the Director of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) Strategy will be the lead sport liaison for football, baseball, women’s basketball and other assigned sport programs.  Duties include, but are not limited to, leading internal working group discussions, collaborating closely with the Kansas LEADS staff and Student Athlete Advisory Council, internal initiatives related to educating staff, coaches and administration on NIL trends and news as well as monitoring, and ensuring adherence to KAI and NCAA policies.  The position will also work closely on NIL licensed merchandise initiatives and serve as a liaison with Learfield related to corporate partner NIL education and initiatives.  In addition, the Director of NIL Strategy will serve as a main liaison to Altius Sports Partners consulting firm as well as other outside entities that partner with Kansas Athletics in the NIL space.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:

1. Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics, and NCAA policies and procedures;

2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules, and procedures;

3. Foster cooperative working relationships with fellow staff members within the Department;

4. Support the athletics department goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values;

5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and in working with other staff members;

6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road;

7. Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of this Position:

  1. Help in overseeing the Kansas Athletics NIL program, conceptualizing and coordinating programming and resources for current University of Kansas student athletes;
  2. Coordinate with external engagement to support brand building and personal business development initiatives;
  3. Work with campus, corporate and community partners, as appropriate, to develop, maximize and enhance NIL education opportunities for student-athletes;
  4. Spearhead consistent meetings of athletics stakeholders including but not limited to Compliance, Student-Athlete Development, Academic Services, External Affairs and Communication;
  5. Stay updated on the latest NIL trends, and communicate to internal and external stakeholders regarding legislative advancements, NCAA compliance regulations and vendor landscape evolutions;
  6. Develop and maintain up to date educational materials for student-athlete, recruit, coach, and staff programming and education sessions, and tracking of ongoing content needs for future development;
  7. Manage NIL questions and requests from internal stakeholders for assigned sports (e.g. student-athletes, coaches, staff, etc.) and external stakeholders (e.g., boosters, third party individuals, local business, etc.);
  8. Drive NIL education through key topics including NCAA compliance, personal branding, sourcing and evaluating opportunities, etc.;
  9. Other duties, as assigned by the Director of Athletics or their designee.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in marketing and branding, student-athlete development, sports related marketing, sponsorship or similar field;
  • Strong awareness and working knowledge of compliance education, rules and regulations;
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines;
  • Able to communicate well in written, oral and interpersonal communication and build rapport quickly with student athletes, faculty and staff;
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Ability to respect confidentiality and practice discretion.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of five years increasingly responsible experience in athletics administration;
  • Former NCAA collegiate student athlete

 

Starting Annual Base Salary: $75,000

This job operates in a professional office. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to: cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

Travel
Travel is not expected for this position.

Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the position. Early morning, evening and weekend work maybe required.
