Sweet Briar Selects Bucky Morris as Next Head Lacrosse Coach

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar College is proud to announce the selection of Bucky Morris as its next Head Lacrosse Coach. Morris is set to start in his new role on Oct. 18.
 
Morris comes to Central Virginia after previously serving as the head coach of the varsity girls' lacrosse program at Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in Washington, D.C. During his two years at Visitation, Morris saw six student-athletes go on to play collegiate lacrosse while also having eight named to the All-ISL Team, four named Washington Post All-Met and USA Lacrosse All-Americans and two selected for the USA All-Academic Team.
 
Morris also lead Visitation to a victory in the ISL Season Championship and was a D.C. State Finalist in 2022. In 2023, Visitation went on to win the D.C. State Championship. He also coached the DC Metro Team to the USA Lacrosse High School Girls National Tournament Championship this past year.

"He brings extensive coaching experience and a wide recruiting network to the position. His programs have achieved an impressive level of success and we are excited to have him join the Sweet Briar family."
 
Additionally, Morris served as the director of both McLean Box Lacrosse and McLean Youth Lacrosse for 20+ years. While with McLean Lacrosse, Morris was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organizations including, developing partnerships with school and community entities, coordinating special events and managing schedules and successfully coaching, connecting and participating in college recruiting. To date, Morris has assisted with over 100 student-athletes in their journeys to playing at NCAA colleges and universities.
 
From 2017-2021 Morris served as the head coach of the girls' varsity lacrosse program at Langley High School in McLean, Va. Langley went on to win two state championships (2017 and 2021), four district championships (2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021) and three region championships (2017, 2019 and 2021) while under his tutelage. For his efforts, Morris was named the Liberty District and Northern Region Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2021, as well as the Virginia State Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2019. Also at Langley, Morris produced 10 USA Lacrosse All-Americans and six USA Lacrosse All-Academic Team selections, 23 players were selected First-Team All-Conference, 13 were selected First-Team All-Region and 10 players were selected First-Team All-State.
 
Morris also saw nine players be named Washington Post All-Met and had 25 Langley student-athletes go on to player collegiate lacrosse during his four years at the helm. In just six years as the varsity head lacrosse coach at Visitation and Langley High School, Morris racked up 104 career wins with a record of 104-22.
 
"I am very excited to have the opportunity to lead the Sweet Briar lacrosse program and for the confidence the Athletic Director, Jason Vittone, and the search committee, had in my selection and their support for me," remarked Morris on his hire. "I look forward to growing our student-athletes towards graduation and to becoming future leaders and building the lacrosse program into excellence and sharing my passion and love lacrosse with such a great institution.
 
Morris played varsity and club lacrosse at Division III Washington College in Chestertown, Md. where he earned a degree in business marketing. His daughter Charlotte played collegiate lacrosse at Division I University of California, Davis while his son Alex played at Division I University of Richmond where he helped lead the Spiders to win two Southern Conference Championships in 218 and 2019 and made two NCAA Tournament appearances.
