BEVERLY, Mass. – On Monday, the Commonwealth Coast Conference distributed the approved strategy, as voted on by the league’s Board of Directors, for University of Hartford’s NCAA provisional process.

2023-24 Academic Year // Year 2 of NCAA Provisional Process:
In the current academic year, the Hawks are provided with full slates of competition in men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball and men’s and women’s lacrosse.

All Hartford games and matches with CCC opponents do not count towards Conference records and are categorized as non-conference contests. Hartford is eligible to compete, but not score, in Conference Championships for men’s golf, men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s track and field. The Hawks are eligible for all academic awards recognized by the Conference.

The University of Hartford continues to honor all athletic scholarships for returning student-athletes. As a part of their scholarship agreement, student-athletes must be on active rosters to receive athletic aid.

“We look forward to continued work with the University of Hartford in order to support the remainder of its transition to Division III,” CCC Commissioner Patrick Colbert said. “The Conference leadership applauds the campus and athletics administrations for being outstanding stewards for their student-athletes.”

2024-25 Academic Year // Year 3 of NCAA Provisional Process:
In Hartford’s final year of transition, new programs for men's and women's tennis and field hockey are anticipated to launch as early as fall 2024.

All Hartford contests with CCC opponents will count towards Conference standings. Hartford student-athletes and coaches will be eligible for all athletic awards recognized by the CCC.

The University of Hartford will be eligible to qualify for and win Conference tournaments. However, per NCAA legislation, the Hawks will not be eligible to earn the CCC automatic qualifier in any sports. If Hartford wins a Conference Tournament, the tournament runner-up will be named the Conference's automatic qualifier.

“We are grateful for the partnership of the CCC and its member institutions as we have worked together to determine our competitive structure this year and next,” said Aaron Isaacs, Vice President for Student Success and Dean of Students. “The unanimous support recognizes the dedication and talent of our student-athletes, coaches, and programs. We look forward to a great future as a full member of  the CCC.”

As of July 1, 2025, the University of Hartford will be fully classified as an NCAA Division III institution, will be eligible for league regular season and tournament titles and will have access to all applicable automatic qualifiers in Conference sports, as well as NCAA postseason advancement. Per NCAA requirements, active student-athletes will not receive any athletic aid during the 2024-25 academic year.
