Term-in-Ology: The Annual Football Official Visit Cycle Begins Today

Although most sports do not have an overall limit on the number of official visits that may be provided, a few do— including football. Specifically, in Division I FBS and FCS football, an institution may provide 56 official visits on an annual basis from April 1 through March 31. The institution must maintain a written record of the visits provided.

An institution may retain a maximum of six unused visits from the previous year. Such visits may be used only during the following year.

For national service academy or an institution that does not subscribe to the National Letter of Intent, such institutions may provide 70 official visits, 56 of which may be provided prior to the initial date of the regular signing period of the National Letter of Intent. An official visit provided to a senior prospect April 1 through July 31 may count toward the previous year's limit.
