NEW ORLEANS —
Xavier University of Louisiana baseball's
Jayden Smith
announced Tuesday that he signed a five-figure NIL deal with
Mathnasium,
an American education brand and supplemental math learning franchise with more than
1,000 learning centers worldwide.
Smith is a sophomore outfielder from
Canton, Mich., and in his second year at XULA. He is a business finance major.
Smith's previous school was Early College Alliance at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.
XULA is a longtime member of
the NAIA, which in October 2020 became
the first national collegiate sports organization to approve legislation
giving student-athletes the opportunity to be compensated for use of their
name, image and likeness (NIL).
The Icon 1901 Collective — a group of HBCU alumni, community partners and former athletes
— helped Smith obtain the NIL deal.
