Hall Promoted to Senior Associate V.P.

THE FLATS Jim Hall, who has directed Georgia Tech athletics’ fundraising efforts for 25 years, has been promoted to Georgia Tech’s senior associate vice president for major gifts and next generation philanthropy, the Institute announced on Monday.

In his elevated position, Hall will shift into an Institute-central role and away from day-to-day oversight of athletics fundraising and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund. He has held a variety of leadership roles since joining the Georgia Tech athletics staff in 1998, most recently serving as associate V.P. for development (athletics) and executive associate athletics director.

“This is a bittersweet announcement for Georgia Tech athletics,” director of athletics J Batt said. “While we are very happy for Jim as he moves into an elevated role within the Institute’s development team, he will be very missed as a member of the GTAA staff. Jim has made an extraordinary impact on Tech athletics and the lives of student-athletes throughout his 25 years on The Flats. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with Jim to achieve the goals of the Institute and the Athletics Association for years to come.”

Under Hall’s leadership, the Alexander-Tharpe Fund (Tech athletics’ fundraising arm) raised more than $20 million annually. From 2019-21, the A-T Fund had the three most successful individual fundraising years in Georgia Tech athletics history, averaging more than $50 million raised annually over the three-year stretch. Athletics Initiative 2020, a three-year initiative to raise $125 million, exceeded that goal by more than 40%, raising a total of $175.39 million. Finally, in 2022, Tech athletics’ Competitive Drive Initiative nearly doubled its initial $2.5 million goal by surpassing $4.8 million raised in the final two months of the year.

Hall’s achievements at Georgia Tech also include being named the 2010 University Division Fundraiser of the Year by the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD) and helping secure several seven-figure commitments for Tech athletics, as well as several schools and colleges across the Institute.

He served as Georgia Tech’s interim vice president for development for seven months in 2022.

“We are thrilled to have Jim move into this leadership role that will help drive the success of Transforming Tomorrow: The Campaign for Georgia Tech,” Georgia Tech vice president for development Jennifer Howe said. “His service as Georgia Tech’s interim vice president for seven months in 2022 achieved one of our highest fundraising years in Institute history, and I have every confidence that he can elevate our current and future major gift efforts to historic levels.”

Hall came to Tech in 1998 from Indiana State, where he also directed athletics fundraising. He also worked at Oklahoma, where he helped start OU’s Sooner Club. He holds a bachelor’s degree from California (1986) and a master’s from Oklahoma (1994).

To fill Hall’s role within the GTAA, Georgia Tech vice president for development Jennifer Howe and Batt will conduct a national search to identify an executive director for athletics development and executive associate athletics director for development. The search will begin immediately. Tech athletics’ development staff will continue to report to Hall until the role is filled.
