South Carolina suspended freshman football players Monteque Rhames II, Anthony Rose and Cameron Upshaw, coach Shane Beamer announced in a release Friday. No reason was provided for the suspensions.

“Our student-athletes know what is expected of them,” Beamer said in the release. “They know that both the University and the football program will hold them accountable for their actions and decisions.”

Richland County, S.C. jail records show Rhames was charged Friday with carrying weapons on school property and obstructing justice.

All three players have yet to see game action for the Gamecocks. Rose — a 6-foot-1, 190-pound defensive back — enrolled at South Carolina in January 2022 and redshirted this past season. Rhames, a four-star edge rusher, and Upshaw, a three-star safety, were announced as part of the 2023 recruiting class and enrolled in classes last month.

South Carolina went 8-5 overall and 4-4 in SEC play last season, its second with Beamer at the helm.
