President of Lakeland's Florida Polytechnic University gets one-year contract extension

Florida Polytechnic University President Randy K. Avent received a one-year contract extension at the recent meeting of the Board of Governors of the State University System of Florida in Miami.

Avent has led the Lakeland school, the newest in the state system, since 2014. His contract was scheduled to expire on July 7. The Florida Polytechnic board of trustees unanimously granted Avent a one-year extension in November, and the Board of Governors approved the contract, which runs through July 6, 2024.

Avent received a raise of 4.5%, bringing his salary to about $478,000. The board also extended the contracts for the presidents of Florida A&M University and Florida Gulf Coast University.
