GREENWOOD - Lander University Athletic Director Brian Reese announced the school's Equestrian club team will now be housed under the athletic department umbrella. They will join the club bass fishing, eSports, and men's rugby teams as department representatives.
The team is one of the oldest club teams at Lander, having been founded in 2000. The current team is comprised of 18 riders ranging from beginner to advanced skills levels and competes in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. The student-athletes compete as a team and as individuals, earning points as the show and winning ribbons.
The Bearcats compete in Zone 5 Region 3 against Clemson, USC, College of Charleston, Georgia Southern, USC Aiken, Wofford, Converse, Furman, Wesleyan College, and Coastal Carolina. Lander currently sits in fourth place in the region, with two more competitions before Regionals.
