Caldwell Assistant AD/Head Women’s Soccer Coach Nate Guagliardi ’00 Announces Resignation

CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University Assistant Athletic Director and Head Women's Soccer Coach Nate Guagliardi '00 announced his resignation to pursue other career opportunities.

"Nate has been a tremendous asset to our department and made significant contributions as a student-athletes and for the last 16 years as an administrator and leading our women's soccer program," said Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Mark A. Corino. "His dedication and worth ethic to the institution and our student-athletes has left a positive impact on the Caldwell community and all the people he interacted with during his time here. We wish him well in his next career steps and he will be missed."

Guagliardi guided the women's soccer program through 16 seasons, posting a 142-127-23 record, including a 111-53-18 conference mark over his career. His coaching career features three Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships and three trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Guagliardi was named the CACC Coach of the Year in 2008 and earned back-to-back ECAC Division II Coach of the Year honors in 2018 and 2019.

In his 16 seasons as head coach, Guagliardi has coached 38 All-CACC players as well as the CACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2019, CACC Player of the Year in 2013 and the CACC Rookie of the Year in 2015. In addition, he has coached two All-American players during his career.

Guagliardi said, "It's been a pleasure to coach at my alma mater for the last 16 years. The institution and people will always hold a special place in my heart. Lastly to all our former and current players, you are the reason why this program has excelled, thank you!"

Guagliardi led the Cougars to one of its best seasons in 2013 as Caldwell won the CACC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Both achievements were firsts for the program. That season, the Cougars finished in second place in the CACC regular-season standings, then posted three consecutive shutouts for the CACC Tournament championship. In the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance, Caldwell suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to 18th-ranked Bridgeport in the first round to finish with a 13-6-2 record on the season. Another highlight of the 2013 season came when midfielder Julie Crankshaw, the CACC Player of the Year, and defender Lauren Iuliucci became the first players in program history to receive All-American honors.

The climb to the top of the CACC almost occurred in 2012, as Caldwell went 14-5 overall and 10-2 in conference play to set program records for overall wins and CACC victories. The regular season included a school-record eight-game winning streak that earned the team its first regional ranking in the program's history. The Cougars also advanced to the semifinals of the CACC Tournament with a 4-0 victory over Holy Family in the quarterfinals.

Guagliardi's teams have excelled in the classroom during his career. His program has earned Unites Soccer Coaches Association Team Academic Honors 11 times during his career. During the most recent academic year, the Cougars posted a 3.35 GPA as a team.

A search for his replacement will begin immediately.
