Tate Elevated To Deputy Athletics Director Post

MACON – Mercer University Director of Athletics Jim Cole has announced the promotion of Daniel Tate as the athletics department's Deputy Athletics Director for External Operations.

Tate has served the University for more than 12 years, and has been charged with oversight of the external operations department which includes marketing & promotions, athletic communications, ticket sales, creative content, broadcasting and multimedia rights.

"Daniel has been a very valuable member of the Mercer team for the last 12-plus years, and I am excited to see him take the next step in the role he plays inside the athletics department," Cole said. "He does a tremendous job with all of the many hats that he wears for us."

Tate joined the Mercer athletics department in February 2011 and saw immediate success in his vital administrative role at MU. He played an integral part in bringing football back to campus after a 72-year hiatus, and also established, maintained and cultivated working relationships with internal and external constituencies that increased sponsorship revenue for the department by more than 800 percent.

He has also been at the forefront of a multitude of initiatives that increased the exposure of Mercer Athletics including the development of program-specific, departmental and ticket-based advertising campaigns, as well as the negotiation of a department-wide shoe and apparel contracts with adidas, as well as Under Armour who became the official shoe and apparel provider of Mercer Athletics last month. He was also responsible for the creation of The Ford Concert Series which brings national recording artists to Five Star Stadium prior to each home football game.

"I'm very grateful for the opportunity that Mr. Cole gave me more than 12 years ago," Tate said. "It has been incredible to be a part of Mercer University and the Middle Georgia community. We are looking forward to what the future holds for this great University and our community."

A native of Greenville, S.C., Tate, and his wife, Brittany, have five children – daughters Madison (16) and Ella Grace (12), and sons Landry (10), Harrison (4) and William (1).
