John Ashaolu Named New Assistant Vice President for Athletics at Lewis University

Lewis University has appointed John Ashaolu as its new Assistant Vice President for Athletics. He will officially join the Flyer family on April 2.

Ashaolu comes to Lewis University from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, where he served as Director of Athletics for six years. Under his leadership, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) school had one of the most successful years in 2022-2023 as the university's teams won seven conference championships, and 10 teams placed either first or second in the River States Conference. During John's tenure at Point Park University, the athletic program won 6 National Championships and 18 conference championships. Also, Point Park University won the River States Conference All-Sports Commissioner's Cup for the last three consecutive years.

In addition to leading the school to competitive success, he fostered a culture of academic excellence among student-athletes and secured significant fundraising for athletic programs. Last academic year, the average GPA for student-athletes was 3.27 and the Pioneers had 15 of their 18 teams finish with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

"John is a visionary leader with a deep passion for higher education, intercollegiate athletics, and student success.," said Dr. Chris Sindt, Provost of Lewis University.

Ashaolu is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership-Higher Education from the American College of Education. He previously earned a Master's Degree in Sports Leadership from Duquesne University and a Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications-Public Relations from Xavier (La.) University, where he was part of a team that won the NAIA Division 1 national tournament his senior year.  Prior to Xavier (La.) University, he spent his first two years at University of New Orleans, where he played NCAA Division I Basketball.

A welcome event for Ashaolu will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Lewis University Flyers compete in 23 NCAA Division II sports for men and women throughout the year. The Flyers are a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference and the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.
